NBN Co announces Bacchus Marsh as second release site
Lateral Plains and the Centre for eCommerce and Communication were engaged by the Moorabool Shire and Multimedia Victoria to develop the Moorabool Community Broadband and Telecommunications Strategy in the period between April 2009 and April 2010. The Moorabool Community Broadband and Telecommunications Strategy examined factors such as current services, unmet demand for communications infrastructure, issues that inhibit the supply of services, whether demand and supply issues experienced in Moorabool Shire are unique or similar to other regions and recommended actions to enhance future ICT access and adoption. A key goal was to support stakeholders in actively advocating and lobbying to achieve an early rollout of the National Broadband Network (NBN) in the Central Highlands Region. On 8 July 2010 NBN Co Limited announced Bacchus Marsh as one of 19 new locations for the next stage of the national broadband network (14 new locations and 5 sites adjacent to existing first release sites). See http://www.nbnco.com.au/publications-and-announcements/latest-announcements/doc/nbn-co-announces-next-rollout-locationsfor further information. We are delighted with this announcement and also the progress we are making with Lateral Plains through our engagement with LGAs across the Central Highlands and Wimmera Southern Mallee Region on parallel ICT studies.
