Presenters
Professor Frank Stagnitti is the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research) at the University of Ballarat. He is responsible for leading the strategic research direction and overall research quality and performance of the University of Ballarat. He is primarily responsible for maintaining and improving the University's profile in research, research training, and research partnerships. Professor Stagnitti also oversees intellectual property, research contracts, partnerships, joint ventures and commercialization and transfer of new knowledge.
Professor Frank Stagnitti holds a BSc with first class Honours and PhD from Griffith University and a Graduate Certificate in Environmental Statistics from University of Canberra. Professor Stagnitti is a Fellow of the Australian Mathematics Society, Fellow of the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications (U.K.), a Chartered Scientist and Chartered Mathematician (U.K.). Professor Stagnitti is an applied mathematician and environmental scientist with research interests broadly in the field of environmental modelling of pollution and is an internationally recognised expert in the area of solute and contaminant transport in soils. He has published over 150 journal articles, attracted several million dollars in research grants, attracted significant research funding from industryand other agencies, and participated in several large international collaborative projects.
Prior to commencing his position at the University of Ballarat in July 2009, Professor Stagnitti held appointments as Chair of Academic Board, Associate Dean Research, Professor and Chair in Aquatic Science at Deakin University.
Anne Ovington has worked at the Seed Bank in seed supply and project management, training delivery and all aspects of seed bank operation since 2003. Prior to this was a tree change for several years on a farm growing trees and establishing woodlots, shelter belts and other revegetation activities. Anne holds a Degree in Business and worked in the business management field for a number of years prior to moving to the Ballarat Region and branching into NRM.
Alastair McEwin is the Director of Community Legal Centres NSW. Previously, he was Chief Executive Officer of People with Disability Australia (PWD), a leading national disability rights organisation, and Manager, NSW Disability Discrimination Legal Centre (DDLC), a specialist community legal centre.
Alastair, who is profoundly Deaf, has Arts, Law and MBA degrees. He has a passion for social justice issues, with particular emphasis on people with disability. Through his senior management roles at PWD and DDLC, Alastair participated in the development of the United Nations (UN) Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
Alastair has held a number of positions including President of Deaf Australia (NSW), Board member of Deaf Australia and the Melbourne 2005 Deaflympics. He currently serves on the NSW Attorney General's Disability Advisory Committee and the boards of the Australian Graduate School of Management Alumni Advisory, Deaf Society of NSW and the Australian Theatre of the Deaf.
Greg Jakob is the Director Planning Quality & Review at the University of Ballarat. He has over 20 years experience in business and corporate management in both the private and public sectors. This experience includes executive financial and corporate service management roles in a number of government sectors including: water resource management; economic development; local government and higher education.
Greg is responsible for the University’s organisational and operational planning; federal and state government funding relations; risk, health and safety management services and quality assurance services.
Marlena Pitrone is the Web and Publications Coordinator for the Fitzroy Legal Service. She oversaw the redesign and launch of the Law Handbook online, and produced the new law4communtiy site with CeCC. She is currently working on a new portal delivering legal information to the education sector.
Prior to Fitzroy Legal Service Marlena was the coordinator for an English program in NSW delivery English needs to newly arrived migrants in the southern Sydney and Wollongong areas.
Marlena's earlier career was in publishing where she produced numerous magazines and promotional collateral for the travel and tourism sector.
Marlena has worked and volunteered for a number of community legal services as she slowly completes her law degree.
Ben Stickland is the CEO and founder of Alliance Software, a web development company established in 1999. Alliance Software employs 18 staff and focuses on the development of websites for businesses and online entrepreneurs.
Alliance Software's portfolio ranges from simple ecommerce sites through to highly complex business applications. Importantly, the company has developed a number of websites that generate online sales in excess of a million dollars each year.
In mid 2008, Ben also cofounded Noble Samurai, creators of the widely used web marketing software, Market Samurai. Since its launch in 2008, Market Samurai has attracted a community of over 110,000 users, generated over $2.5 million in online revenue, and Noble Samurai now employs 10 staff of its own.
Ben's professional interests focus on Internet marketing and he is a regular speaker on the topic. In addition, Ben personally mentors executives and business leaders to help them better take advantage of online opportunities.
Prior to starting his own business, Ben worked as a marketing consultant, and his formal qualifications include a Bachelor of Computing, a Bachelor of Management (Marketing) and a Masters in Software Engineering.

Andrew Macleod has extensive experience in project planning and control and in the implementation of major information technology projects. With a strong understanding of eCommerce and portal technology and strategies, Andrew's technical skills include web development and programming (PHP, XML/XSLT and JavaScript). Previous projects have ranged from database design and implementation to community portals and web pages.
Andrew has worked extensively with regional and rural communities to implement effective web-based services. Andrew completed a Bachelor of Computing degree at the University of Ballarat followed by an Honours degree in Applied Science (Information Technology).
Andrew has been with CeCC since 1999 and has been the technical manager for the past six years. Andrew achieved certification as a Zend Certified Engineer (ZCE) during 2006.
